It is particularly suitable for economically machining components made of soft and hardened steels (up to 65 HRC) and special alloys to their final dimensions. This applies to all components for the automotive industry, medical technology and the aerospace industry that have tolerances in the micrometre or sub-micrometre range. The previously required reclamping of workpieces from turning machines to special machines for honing is no longer necessary. Our MH©cut honing module integrates the precision machining process directly into the production sequence on turning machines and turning centres. This minimises throughput times and significantly increases productivity, especially in serial production. It works with the proven Microcut-Bore-Sizing (MBS) process and the honing tools used for this. The feed slide integrated in the honing module moves the honing needle independently of the feed movement of the lathe. This allows the honing tool to calibrate the bores to the highest accuracy in shape and diameter (≤1 μm) as well as to the highest surface quality (Ra up to 0.04 μm). A special feature is that the machining result is determined in particular by the tool. By varying individual tool parameters, for example the grain size of the coating or the abrasive used (cBN or diamond), the required accuracy and surface quality can be achieved. At present, honing needles are available for 1 to 5 mm bore diameters, available in micrometre increments. Our specialists are developing further tools to extend the range of diameters. Our innovative MH©cut honing module ensures maximum process reliability and integrated quality assurance. The feed force and torque on the honing needle are monitored in real time and the feed speed is controlled accordingly. The honing process can be precisely recorded. The process parameters can be logged, analysed and assessed in line with Industry 4.0. The recorded data for feed force, travel and torque can be used, for example, to assess the accuracy and quality of the previous drilling process. The control system immediately recognises drill holes with diameters that are too small or too large, and the workpieces in question can be rejected as rejects. Measuring just 360 x 210 x 127 mm (length, height, width), our MH©cut honing module can be easily installed on linear tables on almost all standard turning machines and turning centres. It is connected to the CNC control via standard interfaces. Integration into multi-spindle machines is also possible thanks to the compact design.
